Approaching Tesuque from the south, on Bishop’s Lodge Road, the landscape suddenly turns from the browns and reds of the high desert into a lush green world. You have entered a bosque, the treed land adjacent to water in New Mexico. Both Rio Tesuque and Little Tesuque Creek run through this area, creating this desert oasis. Tesuque is close to the Santa Fe Opera and about fifteen minutes from the historic Santa Fe Plaza. Many locals hang out at the Tesuque Village Market, a store and restaurant rolled into one. It’s a place for breakfast, lunch or dinner or to pick up baked goods, wine and a few staples. Parts of the area are adjacent to the Santa Fe National Forest and offer easy access to hiking and biking trails. It’s a wonderful area for horseback riding. Many homeowners in the area keep their own horses. While views around the village are limited, it’s the price you pay for trees, the views up toward Chupadero and Rio En Medio are superb.
If you’re looking for an area that affords privacy, a country setting and proximity to Santa Fe, Tesuque should be on your list.
